Why should we choose the Constitution?

The Articles of Confederation

1.Congress could request states to pay taxes.

2.No system of federal courts.

3.No provision to regulate interstate trade.

4.No executive with power. President of U.S. merely presided over Congress.

5.13/13 needed to amend Articles.

6.Each state received 1 vote regardless of size .

7.Congress could not draft troops, dependent on states to contribute forces.

8.No control of trade between states.

9.Complicated system of arbitration.

10.Sovereignty resides in states.

11.9/13 needed to approve legislation.

The Constitution

1.Congress has right to levy taxes on individuals.

2.Court system created to deal with issues between citizens, states.

3.Congress has right to regulate trade between states.

4.Executive branch headed by President who chooses Cabinet and has checks on power of judiciary and legislature.

5.2/3 of both houses of Congress plus 3/4 of state legislatures or national convention.

6.Upper house (Senate) with 2 votes; lower house (House of Representatives) based on population.

7.Congress can raise an army to deal with military situations.

8.Interstate commerce controlled by Congress.

9.Federal court system to handle disputes.

10.Constitution the supreme law of the land.

11.50%+1 of both houses plus signature of President

By comparing and contrasting between the Arcticles of Confedertation with the Constitution, we can clearly see that the Arcticles of Confederation has less proper regulation as well as more complicate systems than the Constitution.
